Problem Statement
Travelers who frequently journey with pets face significant challenges when searching for pet-friendly accommodations and dining options.
Booking platforms often lack clear filters and provide ambiguous or unreliable information about businesses' pet-friendly policies. This creates frustration and uncertainty, negatively impacting travel planning and overall user satisfaction. Addressing these gaps is essential to deliver a seamless, user-centric experience for this growing segment of travelers.
My Role
I played a pivotal role in this project, collaborating closely with the research team, Product Managers (PMs), and developers to address these challenges. My responsibilities included:
Conducting Primary Research: I led initial research efforts, gathering critical insights into user needs and preferences through interviews, surveys, and observational studies.
Facilitating Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working with developers, I participated in discussions and decision-making to determine the most effective approaches for implementing features in the new application. I incorporated user feedback, data analysis, and product roadmap considerations into these decisions.
Shaping Implementation Processes: I helped streamline development processes, ensuring a seamless user experience and alignment between design and functionality.
In summary, my contributions included conducting thorough research, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and defining successful feature release strategies to meet the needs of target users.
To address the lack of emphasis on pet-friendly services in booking platforms, we conducted qualitative research, starting with in-depth interviews users who frequently travel with pets. This helped uncover their frustrations and needs when searching for pet-friendly accommodations and dining options.
Key findings included challenges such as the absence of clear filters on platforms and ambiguous information from businesses.
Building on these insights, we expanded the research with surveys and user observation sessions, testing various platforms. This revealed critical gaps in the customer experience, including unreliable or inaccessible information, which negatively impacted travel planning and user satisfaction.
Customer meetings as a priority: insights into user needs, preferences, and challenges.
Quick launch strategy: Engaged users through social media campaigns and marketing databases for diverse feedback.
Wireframe development and testing: Created wireframes to prototype the interface and functionality, incorporating user feedback early to refine the design.
Collaboration with developers: Actively participated in discussions to align user feedback, data analysis, and the product roadmap for seamless implementation.
Iterative approach: Combined user interviews, targeted user testing, and wireframe validation to ensure a user-centric, efficient solution before the broader launch.
Survey Insights Summary
I conducted a survey with 280 participants, including pet owners, frequent travelers, and occasional users of booking platforms. The three key questions provided the following insights:
1. Reservation Frequency: 51% book frequently, 28% occasionally, and 21% never, showing strong demand for booking solutions.
2. Booking Method: 80% prefer online booking, highlighting the dominance of digital platforms.
3. Search Tools: 50% use Google, 45% Booking.com, 3% Tripadvisor, and 2% other methods, with Google being the main entry point.
These findings emphasize the importance of online platforms, trust, and ease of use in shaping user behavior.
